Marco Cremonesi: Armenia.
It is a faith that does not give up, not even in the ruins of war. It’s the one that tells the story Faith and Warthe photographic exhibition held from 27 October 2025 to 5 April 2026 in the spaces of the Ambrosianeum Foundation, in the heart of Milan. Promoted by Ambrosianeum and the photographic collective Memora, with the patronage of the Archdiocese of Milan, the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, PIME and the contribution of the BCC Foundation, CCL – Consorzio Cooperative Lavoratori and Bink’s, the exhibition is proposed as a journey into the pain of our time, but also into the spiritual resistance that runs through it.
The project, conceived as “an open work”, gathers the gazes of photographers Carlo Cozzoli, Davide Canella, Alessandro Cimma and Marco Cremonesiwho documented the conflicts of Armenia, Syria, Lebanon, Myanmar and Nigeria. Each photograph is a direct testimony, a fragment of reality where faith is measured against violence, fear, loss.

In the upper dome of the Pilgrims’ Rotundaa suggestive installation invites the visitor to reflect on the profound link between faith and war: two extreme human experiences, often intertwined. In the villages of Pulkain Nigeria, farmers attend mass at dawn, before returning to the fields, despite daily kidnappings by Islamic extremists. In Armeniathe Christian faith has become the target of persecution and destruction of sacred symbols, in an attempt to erase a thousand-year-old memory.
The Lebanonwith its over fifty religious denominations, lives suspended between Hezbollah and the IDF, while Christian communities defend their villages along the Blue Line. In Syriafaith holds together communities devastated by years of war: from Damascus to the desert monasteries, up to Deir Mar Musa, founded by Father Paolo Dall’Oglio, where the dream of a fragile Abrahamic dialogue survives. And in Myanmaryoung people of Buddhist or Christian faith fight in the jungle against the military dictatorship that is attacking schools and churches.

The exhibition was born from the meeting between two realities: Ambrosianeuma cultural foundation founded after the war on the initiative of Cardinal Schuster, Enrico Falck and Giuseppe Lazzati, which has always been committed to the moral and civil reconstruction of the country; And Remembera photographic collective founded in 2023 by Yunus Boiocchi, Cozzoli, Cremonesi, Canella and Cimma, which makes photography an instrument of human and civil testimony.
In their dialogue the memory of the past and the tragedies of the present are intertwined. Because, as Father Dall’Oglio wrote, “faith does not take away pain, but transforms it into a meeting place”. This is the bet Faith and War: to show that even in the most wounded places on the planet, faith continues to speak life.
