Nana Mouskouri, faithful in love: “I was not Brigitte Bardot…”
The one who has already sold more than 400 million albums has just released a new opus dedicated to her friendship and her long-standing collaboration with Serge Lama, Nana with the heart of Lama. Although she is fulfilled on a professional level, Nana Mouskouri, who today lives between Switzerland and Paris, where she owns a private mansion at the Trocadéro, has never neglected her private life. In a relationship for fifty years with her discreet producer André Chapelle, to whom she also said yes in 2003, she was very faithful to him.
“When you love someone, you don’t need to look elsewhere. I’m naturally loyal, too. However, we’re not always on top of each other”she confided to Paris Match in October 2024. And she added: “I wasn’t Brigitte Bardot after all. And above all, when I entered this profession, I promised myself not to waste time by looking everywhere. I wanted to devote myself to music”.
Nana Mouskouri charmed by Alain Delon? “I have never been a free woman on this subject”
Asked about her relationship with Alain Delon, who died in August 2024, Nana Mouskouri did not hide her grief: “It’s difficult to see your friends leave. Alain was an extraordinary man. We lived in the same building in Geneva”. “The first time I met him was in the mountains, where I was singing. I had seen him in ‘Rocco and His Brothers’, he invited me to his table and then wanted me to go with him to play at the casino. I don’t like it, because my father was a gambler… So I left, and he told me he would send me flowers if he won. A few days later, I received some, even though he had lost. He was very elegant, charming.”she even detailed.
But the singer, who was also an MEP, confirmed that their relationship was platonic: “I could be seduced by an actor in a film, but in real life, I would not have approached him that much. Firstly because I never felt very attractive. But also because I have never been a free woman on this subject”.
Mother of two children, Nicolas and Hélène, whom she had with Geórgios Petsilás, she has only one regret: that of not having been present enough for them: “I did everything for my children, but the song took up a lot of space. Until they were six, they accompanied me on tour, but after that, I preferred to offer them a solid environment, in Paris, with a school, a nanny…”.
