Star names are a dream come true and inspire many parents looking for the perfect name for their future child. But this fascination does not stop at the doors of maternity wards. In 2025, celebrities continue to influence choices… in a hairier way than you might think!
Choosing a first name is a decision that defines the person throughout their life. Some opt for safe values, timeless classics that span generations or very trendy first names. Others prefer originality, looking for a first name that stands out from the crowd and reflects a unique personality. Because a first name can shape the character and identity of the person who wears it. Between tradition and modernity, softness and strength, the selection criteria are numerous and often reveal a lot about the tastes and aspirations of those who choose.
And for our four-legged companions, it’s exactly the same thing! Rover, the world’s leading network of pet-sitters, has just revealed its annual ranking of the most popular pet names in France. As with children, there is a letter of honor every year – and 2025 is under the sign of “A”. Unsurprisingly, Nala sits in first position, both among dogs and cats, confirming the enduring influence of the Lion King. Simba, Luna, Maya and Milo are also among the favorites of the French. But the real stars of the year? Archibald, which explodes with an increase of +1726%, Aïko (+1228%), and on the feline side, Walter (+1224%) which stands out as the most trendy name. And that’s not all: celebrities also inspire owners to name their fur balls.
The trends this year have a red carpet feel. Among the dogs, Rihanna, Jul and Soprano lead the way. Athletes are not put aside with Karim, in reference to the famous French striker. On the cat side, another scene is played out: Taylor and Britney compete in glamor, while Zizou, Tupac and Obama recall influential figures from the sporting, musical and political scene.
But the French do not lack imagination to think outside the box! Gastronomy inspires widely: Kimchi, Berry, Cracotte, Pancake and Rösti for dogs; Pudding, Chocapic and Mandarin for cats. Proof that our animals make our mouths water! Crazy and offbeat names are also popular: Grizzly, Bulle, Loustic, Clochette and Scotch on the canine side; Sock, Moogli, Vodka, Zigzag and Patapouf on the feline side. Enough to brighten up calls to the park and bring a smile to your face during a conversation at the vet!
