The August Architecture team knew this couple well with whom they had already worked on other projects. As everything had gone well, the buyers decided to consult them before purchasing this new home for their family. The apartment was old with a lot of charm, including a high ceiling. It had a comfortable surface area of 150 m², was located in a beautiful area of Paris, the 17th arrondissement, and it was very bright thanks to its large windows. It was made up of magnificent living rooms and three bedrooms. This is exactly what they needed. However, there were things to improve: a lot of space wasted due to the numerous corridors, partitioned, adjoining living rooms, as well as three bathrooms when two were more than sufficient.
Create openings that change everything
The apartment was quite well designed since the three living rooms, dining room, living room and kitchen, were on the left and the sleeping area was on the right. It was not possible to bring together the living room and the dining room which were separated by a large load-bearing wall (the property is on the first floor) and with beautiful fireplaces on either side. The kitchen was adjoining the dining room. The architects therefore proposed to create an opening between these two rooms, which was very coherent, and to close one of the three doors giving access to the living room in order to facilitate furnishing. All the bathrooms have been redone and one of them has been removed to enlarge the children’s sleeping area. A partition was broken and rebuilt to create a cupboard built into the wall for the two adjoining bedrooms. Part of the corridor, which was 13 m², was transformed into an office. Another small hallway was closed off to create a small powder room, near the living space. The apartment has gained in coherence, fluidity and its charm has increased thanks to the decorative touches by August Architecture. We’ll let you discover it.
