Ironic, sometimes sarcastic, capable of swinging between a concrete, sometimes hasty attitude and the sweetness revealing an indomitable sensitivity. It was all this and more Matilde Amorosi, journalist and writer, a woman of a thousand nuances, who knew how to transfer with her pen all the emotions she captured in dialogues, with natural empathy.
She passed away suddenly, in yet another surprise, among all those that marked her life, full of goals and engaging events. He was 86 years old, but he looked about sixty in appearance and even less in the enthusiasm and passion he put into his work as a “reporter with a soul”.
She began her journalistic career in an era in which it was certainly not easy for a woman to establish herself in this field, soon becoming one of the most appreciated and authoritative names in large-circulation magazines such as People And Today. She loved to define herself as a “Totologist” for the various books on the prince of laughter written in collaboration with Totò’s daughter, Liliana De Curtisamong which, for Rizzoli Every limit has a patience, You speak like badi and Totò are feminine and malafemmene. He was recently completing research on the wife of Edmondo De Amicis, in whose correspondence the harassment suffered by the author of the book appears Heart.
For Christian familyin the last 7 years, he has written various important articles, such as the one dedicated to the relationship between Pius XII and his old schoolmate, Guido Aaron Mendes, that the Pontiff, unjustly accused of anti-Semitism, helped to escape to Switzerland or as the exclusive interview with Giorgio Assummathe celebrity lawyer, who revealed, in an engaging way, his rapprochement with faith.
He also collaborated assiduously with Mary with youthe Marian weekly of San Paolo, continually finding surprising stories of devotion to the Virgin among today’s famous people and those of past eras.
«This work», he often repeated to the writer in long and frequent telephone conversations and by virtue of a thirty-year feeling, «is a spiritual journey for me. The figure of Mary was almost indifferent to me at first and now she has taken my heart, she makes me reflect on the turning points imprinted in many lives by her protection».
In many of her articles Matilde concluded with the sweet thought of the farewell to this world of a certain personality, in the arms of the Celestial Mother. He did it for example on the occasion of the passing of Pippo Baudovery close to Santa Maria della Stella, the Madonna venerated in Militello in Val di Catania, his hometown.
It is nice now, Matilde, to turn this tender image to you, who created it. You will always be alive in the hearts and memories of all of us.
