It all started spontaneously on TikTokwhere thousands of users began using the song’s biting chorus to accompany video edits of iconic athletes. The trend follows a precise pattern: images of former athletes (mostly footballers) or historical flags that have left their mark, unleashing the emotion of the fans.
The most viral characters linked to the world of sport feature athletes such as Paulo Dybala when he wore the Juventus shirt, Totti with the Roma shirt, Alonso while driving Ferrari, but also coaches like Massimiliano Allegri.
The line “but for too long I have felt that love is not enough for me” has become the manifesto of sporting melancholy: the love for the shirt remains, but time or circumstances have separated the fans from their idols.
The success was overwhelming and even surpassed the Christmas hits, which are always very strong during this period. The song climbed the charts of the “Top 50 Italy” playlist, recording a real listening boom in the last month: more than 12 million streams.
Emma’s reactionshocked by this flashback, didn’t wait long. On social media she reacted with the irony and genuineness that distinguish her, publishing the screenshot of the ranking with the caption: “Sorry, I don’t feel very well.”
The artist then called this phenomenon a “Christmas miracle”thanking the fans for proving that good songs never expire: «When songs are part of an imagination, they come back and stay forever».
Originally released in 2013 on the album Schiena, the song has a powerful rock-pop production which today, thanks to Gen Z, is rediscovered with a different sensitivity. The drums and lyrics lend themselves perfectly to the tight editing of sports videos, confirming that an artist’s catalog is a living organism, capable of being reborn thanks to the creativity of the public.
