It was one of the pillars of the social security financing bill (PLFSS) presented by the government: a blank year, without any increase in social benefits or retirement pensions. The objective: 3.6 billion euros in savings. But parliamentarians decided otherwise, and the PLFSS finally adopted on December 16 does not provide for these measures. For retirees, the effects to be expected on the revaluation of their pension will nevertheless be minimal.
A revaluation in line with inflation
As provided for in article L. 161-25 of the Social Security Code, the revaluation of pensions is calculated based on “the evolution of the annual average of consumer prices, excluding tobacco», as observed by INSEE in the last twelve months, from December of year N-1 to November of year N. Referring to INSEE’s work, we learn that inflation remained at 0.9% on average over the past year. This therefore results in a revaluation of pensions by the same coefficient, as confirmed in a circular by the Ministry of Labor on December 15. Thus, a pension of €800 will be revalued on January 1 to €807.20. This is the lowest increase in 4 years: in 2021, it was only 0.4%.
For their part, the supplementary retirement pensions paid by Agirc-Arrco were not revalued last November, after an increase of 1.6% on November 1, 2024, and 4.9% on November 1, 2023. As the revaluation of Agirc-Arrco usually only takes place once a year, the situation is not expected to change before next fall.
When will you receive your pension?
Please note, this revaluation does not concern the payment on January 9. This relates to the December 2025 pension, which is not affected by the increase. It is therefore from the payment of February 9 that you will receive an increased pension.
As a reminder, retirement pensions are normally paid on the 9th of each month. If the 9th is a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, payment is advanced. Thus, in 2026, payments for May and August will take place on the 7th. In Alsace-Moselle, retirement pensions are paid on the 1st day of the month, or the first working day following if the 1st is a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday.
