At 65, singer Stephan Eicher releases a new album and gives his news. Retirement, notoriety… He speaks without tongue in cheek.
Although discreet, Stephan Eicher continues to release albums. His latest, entitled Gold dustwas published last November. Now aged 65, the Swiss singer does not plan to retire anytime soon…
Stephan Eicher ready for retirement?
The artist was interviewed by France Info for the release of this new record and did not escape a question about retirement. Despite his 40-year career, the singer of the hit Lunch in peace is categorical and also provided a laconic answer: it is “No“! Singing and making music – he plays the guitar and inherited an accordion – is his daily happiness.”I love my life. I hope I can make you feel it, even with melancholy songs“, he added.
The artist, father of two children, is however not hyperactive and if he does not plan to spend his old age doing nothing, he also knows how to simply enjoy life far from recording studios or concert halls. “I know how to hang out, I’m a great walker (…) take care of my family, my friends, write songs, put on a good concert: I have the arrogance to say that I know a little bit about“, he explains this time to South West.
What does Stephan Eicher do in his free time?
The singer, who believes that we “appreciate it a little more here than in Switzerland“, confirming the adage that no one is a prophet in his country, has more than just a passion for music in life. For years, Stephan Eicher has also had a particular love for drawing. “I draw a lot because it calms me down. There are people who take Valium, I draw. I love post-its“, he explains to France Info.
The performer, who his French fans will be able to find on the legendary Parisian stage of the Olympia from February 19 to 21, 2026, also made some confidences to France Inter, discussing this record and his career. Honest, Stephan Eicher confided: “I learned to sing, you can call it that too. I’m not a great singer, but I love singing, I hope we hear that.”
