It is ideal for people wishing to take a digestive “break”.

The pancreas is a vital organ that plays a dual role: it participates in digestion and the regulation of sugar (insulin) in the body. It is the conductor of our energy, it is he who transforms what we eat into “fuel” usable by our cells. It does not “clean” itself in the literal sense like you would clean a coffee machine filter, but you can “support” or “protect” it to promote its natural regeneration. Supporting the pancreas in January is particularly strategic to help the body emerge from the period of fatigue linked to the holidays. The goal is not to magically eliminate toxins, but to reduce the workload of the pancreas and fight inflammation with antioxidants.

Our naturopath Audrey Vergès shares her favorite drink to take care of your pancreas at the start of the year. It is ideal forPeople wishing to take a digestive “break” after the holidays or those who suffer from slow digestion, bloating or slight inflammation in the digestive system. It consists of two ingredients which are powerful anti-inflammatories and which stimulate digestion without overloading the organ.

This drink is the infusion of ginger and turmeric. The naturopath advises favoring fresh roots. For a 250 ml cup of herbal tea: infuse approximately 1 to 2 cm of ginger root and 1 cm of turmeric root for 10 minutes in boiling water. They must be peeled and cut into thin slices or grated to release the active ingredients.

For a supportive treatment (January), take 1 to 2 cups per day, ideally between meals (for example at 10 a.m. or 4 p.m.). This ensures that gastric juices are not diluted during digestion while providing a constant flow of antioxidants. Be careful, ginger can be stimulating for some sensitive people. It is best to consume this drink before 6 p.m. The pancreas doesn’t like the cold. Consuming these roots in a hot or warm infusion helps maintain the “digestive fire” necessary for the proper functioning of pancreatic enzymes, especially in the middle of January.

Although natural, the combination of ginger and turmeric is powerful and requires certain precautions that must be respected. Due to the action of turmeric on the gallbladder, this drink is not recommended for people suffering from gallstones, as it could trigger hepatic colic. In addition, these two roots have naturally fluidifying properties, their consumption must be supervised by medical advice for people under anticoagulant or antiplatelet treatment.
