Virginie Efira is the mother of two children, but she experienced the two births in very different ways. The 48-year-old actress spoke without filter to “Madame Figaro” about her relationship with motherhood which was not always easy…
Virginie Efira is today “a happy mother” and yet motherhood has not always been easy for the 48-year-old actress. When she gave birth to her daughter Ali, her eldest now 12 years old, the Belgian found herself a little lost. She confided in her complex relationship with motherhood in an interview with Madame Figaro…
Virginie Efira, worried about her son? “My age scared me”
Against all expectations, the actress experienced the birth of her second child, Hiro, 2 and a half years old, the fruit of her love with Niels Schneider, better than that of her eldest daughter, whom she had ten years earlier. Motherhood was “much simpler“to live the second time.”However, I had a child very late (at 46 years old, editor’s note) and my age scared me. I had the impression that this new role was going to be difficult, because my life was already very busy”, she was surprised.
It must be said that the birth of his eldest daughter Ali had “transformed” her “own relationship to the world“.”It took me a long time to find my identity, to allow myself a place“, explained the former host of New StarWho “do not bear the weight that we put on a mother by making her believe that everything must be wonderful during her pregnancy and when she gives birth” while the reality can sometimes be quite different.
Finally, the maturity she has acquired over the years has allowed Virginie Efira to be more fulfilled by welcoming her second child Hiro, whose first name actually comes from the animated film The Boy and the Heronby Hayao Miyazaki, of which they “love the characters” with Niels Schneider: “Allowing myself the right to moods completely relaxed me. I’m on cloud nine“.
Today, she has found her place and her “balance“within his little family:”Being four of us, we have the opportunity to share our time, and I often go on fun little trips alone with Ali, or I spend an evening alone with Hiro who, at 2 and a half years old, already tells lots of things“.
Virginie Efira and her life as a mother: “I have to make sacrifices…”
Niels Schneider’s partner has also found her ideal balance between private and professional life. Until her daughter Ali entered middle school recently, the native of Schaerbeek in Brussels-Capital always took her with her on long shoots: “I then found a school near where I was filming“.
After the birth of her son Hiro, Virginie Efira took a two-year break to stay by his side. “Even if his father is very present and a fervent defender of gender parity, I am inevitably led to make sacrifices. But I’m not complaining, I’m a happy mother“, she concluded.
