They allowed residents to see a doctor in the evening, at night or on weekends, without going to the emergency room.
Due to lack of agreement with doctors, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) takes note of the closure of three on-call medical homes. These closures take place in a context of disagreement with certain health professionals over the terms of remuneration of guards. These structures allowed patients to consult a doctor outside of usual hours, particularly in the evening, at night, on weekends or on public holidays.
Since 2012, these medical centers (as well as a fourth) have benefited from a special, more favorable remuneration plan, put in place at the time because it was difficult to recruit doctors there. The ARS has decided to remove this exceptional regime and return to the normal payment system from January 1, 2026. It had announced its decision in 2022 in order to harmonize the remuneration of guards and so that the doctors working there are not paid more than elsewhere. This timetable was to give the professionals concerned nearly four years to prepare for this development.
The professionals concerned contested this development and the four medical centers on call launched a strike. According to the ARS, they did not wish to initiate discussions on the modalities of supporting this transition. Three of them have since closed. They are located in Yvelines, precisely in the sectors of Mantes-la-Jolie, Montfort-l’Amaury, Montigny-le-Bretonneux and Les Mureaux.
The ARS, however, ensures that permanent care remains operational in Yvelines. The medical regulation of Center 15 continues to direct patients towards the most appropriate care, in particular the Care Access Service (SAS), a system which helps to quickly find a medical consultation, or towards emergency services, the functioning of which is not impacted.
After an initial consultation with local elected officials, the ARS states that it wants to maintain a system of on-call medical centers in the areas concerned. Professionals will be asked to specify whether they wish to resume their activity under common law conditions. If this were not the case, the agency plans to launch a new call for applications in order to certify other volunteer professionals to carry out this mission.
