59 percent of cases concern the age group between 13 and 25 years and some diagnoses already arrive around 8-9 years of age. Nutrition and eating disorders are complex and silent diseasessince excessive pursuit of results, dissatisfaction and isolation can also hide eating disorders.
To help understand and prevent some of the signs with which this disease manifests itself and direct people towards qualified treatment centers of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Voto 10 with reserve was born, the awareness campaign promoted by the Bullone Foundation, together with the Department of Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition of the Niguarda Hospital, conceived with the support of the creative agency Next Different, the support of the Guido Venosta Foundation and the patronage of the Italia Patria della Bellezza Foundation.
Often these pathologies are not identified promptly due to a lack of social awareness and the tendency to underestimate their psychological nature. However, it is precisely in the early phase that intervention can make the difference. It is essential to understand that changes in the body represent only the visible effect of a deeper discomfort, while the delay in diagnosis and inadequately qualified interventions are among the main factors in the chronicity of the disease.
The Bullone Foundation campaign highlights how scholastic or sporting excellence, traditionally considered a positive value, can become a wake-up call when it is accompanied by growing isolation, chronic dissatisfaction and excessive pursuit of performance. Ignoring these signs risks precluding timely recognition of deeper distress.
Rating 10 with reservations aims to promote a culture of prevention involving the adults who are close to young people every day: parents, teachers, sports educators, coaches, educational workers. Fundamental figures for the early observation of signs of distress which, if adequately informed, can become the first barrier against the worsening of the disease.
The campaign is part of the activities of the Lilac Month, dedicated to raising awareness of these disorders. March 15th, in particular, is celebrated as National Nutrition and Eating Disorders Day.also called Lilac Bow Day, an important opportunity to shine the spotlight on increasingly widespread and complex disorders, which require a shared commitment.
