After just a few days of mildness and sunshine, the cold returns, meteorologists warn.
The mildness of the last few days was pleasant… but there are only a few hours left to enjoy it. According to meteorology experts like Marc Hay “a profound change in weather will affect France with the arrival of maritime polar air. Temperatures will plummet and snow will make a comeback”. When exactly? In all regions? Will it even freeze? What we know at this stage.
The month of March is often capricious in terms of weather. We know the famous showers, capable of taking us from one hour to the next from gentle sunshine to showers and gray weather. But it is a new phenomenon which will affect France in a few hours. According to specialists, Tuesday March 24 will be the last day of the week to offer spring-like conditions. “This Tuesday will therefore be another very pleasant day, with a simply hazy sky over the north of the country. The wind will strengthen during the day near the Channel to reach 90 km/h the following night (night from Tuesday to Wednesday) as a cold front passes through” continues the expert on the Tameteo.com site.
It is therefore on Wednesday March 25 that the weather will change considerably, with the arrival of a cold front which will cross France from north to south. “At midday, the disturbance will stretch from the southwest to the northeast. It will bring rain and snow to low altitude, from 600 to 800 meters between the Vosges and the Jura.” After the passage of this front, maritime polar air will rush in, causing temperatures to plummet. We could lose more than 15 degrees between Tuesday and Thursday, going for example from 18°C in Paris to -3°C. “The wind will be noticeable inland with gusts sometimes close to 70 to 80 km/h, accentuating the winter feeling” specifies the meteorological site.
Frosts are expected on Friday. Météo-France forecasts in particular: 5°C in Langres; 3°C in Nevers and Aurillac; 1°C in Orléans, Bourges, Metz and Nancy; 0°C in Ambérieu and Reims. Saturday looks set to be very rainy. It could still snow in some areas.
When will the good weather return? It’s still too early to tell. “Temperatures could return to a level more consistent with the season at the start of next week but the weather conditions could remain quite humid.” So the time has not yet come to put all your winter sweaters away in the attic. Better to keep them for a few more days, as well as the oilskins.
