Emmanuel Grégoire was elected new mayor of Paris on March 22. If we know that he is close to Anne Hidalgo, the councilor is more discreet when it comes to discussing his private life. But he still agreed to reveal a few details…
Emmanuel Grégoire succeeds Anne Hidalgo as mayor of Paris, with a very good score of 51% and a victory over Rachida Dati, his main competitor. And the man who was running under the colors of the Union of the Left has been close to the latter for a long time since he was his first deputy. But if he has a political background known to all, this native of Lilas (in Seine-Saint-Denis) is much more discreet about his family life. What do we know about the private life of the new councilor?
Emmanuel Grégoire: partner, children, blended family… What do we know about his private life?
Emmanuel Grégoire does not want to reveal the identity of his partner, but he still agreed to specify in an interview for YouTuber Sam Zirah that he is in a relationship with a woman and that together, they are raising a blended family. “We have five children. (…) A large tribe with very different ages since the oldest is 20 years old, my daughter is 16 years old, my son 14 then 12 and 9 years old“, he explained. A configuration that suits these siblings very well: “They get along wonderfully with the joys and challenges of reorganizing families.“.
He also wants to be a present father for his children and did not hesitate to proclaim loudly and clearly: “Becoming a father was the happiest moment of my life. Of all the beautiful experiences I have had in my life, that of being a father is by far the most exciting, the most magical.“.
Emmanuel Grégoire: sexual abuse, suicide within his family… The tragedies of his life
And if today he is a fulfilled family man and an emblematic figure of the capital, he does not hide the fact that he carries with him terrible wounds from the past. “I am someone who has carried an internal wound for a very long time, a silent wound (…). This story is that of a child who, in CM1, suffered sexual violence for several months as part of after-school activities, in a municipal swimming pool.“, he confided a few months earlier to France Inter.
Anne Hidalgo’s successor had never spoken of this trauma in public before, but had decided to break the silence as cases of sexual violence in school and extracurricular environments increased in the capital. For a long time he had “found neither the strength, nor the means, nor the words to say this pain and suffering“.
Emmanuel Grégoire also experienced another tragedy, more recent this time, since his brother committed suicide last year. “It was a terrible family tragedy since he killed himself. It’s unreal (…) We feel, especially me, a great deal of guilt.” he assured Sam Zirah. And added: “A thousand times I’ve been told that I shouldn’t blame myself. But yes. We blame ourselves because he is no longer there. It’s hard to hold someone’s hand for a long, long time“.
