After damaging my hair by trying to change the color myself, I ended up discovering a simple and inexpensive trick that literally saved my lengths.
Who has never been tempted by home coloring? Promise of a quick result, a welcome saving and a cocooning moment in your own bathroom… On paper, everything seemed perfect, however, the reality did not live up to my expectations.
At first, I just wanted a change. With spring approaching, I dreamed of a brighter color, a subtle back-from-vacation effect to warm up my complexion. I also had the idea of doing it myself, quietly, without going to the living room. Head to the supermarket to find the perfect shade. The product seemed easy to apply, the photos on the box promised shiny and silky hair. But despite scrupulous compliance with the instructions, upon rinsing, my lengths were rough, almost “cardboard”. When drying, my hair lost its suppleness, the ends were dull and my brush caught painfully with each pass.
Some colorings excessively open the hair fiber: water escapes, making the hair dry and brittle. My lengths looked more like straw than the dream hair I was hoping for. I seriously considered the radical solution: cutting. But sacrificing years of growth for failed coloring was unbearable to me. So I started testing different emergency solutions: masks, serums, oil baths purchased at a high price… The softness effect never lasted beyond the first wash. Until a hairdresser told me about a gesture that was almost too simple to believe.
She explains to me that hair sensitized by chemistry especially needs hydration to regain its suppleness, and nutrition to smooth and protect the lengths. It’s this winning combination that lastingly transforms damaged hair. The solution that saved mine is surprisingly simple.
I add 4 to 5 drops of vegetable glycerin, a powerful active ingredient to attract and retain hydration at the heart of the fiber, to my usual treatment. After 20 minutes of application, I apply a bath of coconut oil to the lengths (30 minutes minimum, or even overnight), before a gentle shampoo. This recipe transformed my hair in just three applications.
In just a few uses, my hair regained all its former suppleness and shine. As you can see, the best solution sometimes comes from natural ingredients and a budget of around 5 euros. My hair thanks me, and so does my wallet!
