Less expensive than Disneyland, Europa-Park or even PortAventura, this amusement park is still very little known to the French. However, it is one of the most visited and appreciated in Europe.

The French are big fans of amusement parks, and luckily, there is no shortage of them around us. Disneyland Paris, Parc Astérix, Europa-Park and PortAventura World to name only the most famous, Europe has some of the best leisure complexes in the world. And even the best overall, since Europa-Park has won this title no less than ten times. But the main obstacle to these outings with family or friends is often the price. And when you have to add transportation, accommodation and meals on site… many end up giving up.

But the Old Continent is never short of resources, it is possible to combine the quest for sensations and a limited budget by heading towards less popular parks, without fearing disappointment. One of them in particular remains little known to the French public, despite its attractive prices and its very good reputation. With entry tickets between 47 and 54 euros, it is cheaper than its competitors, without being less popular: it is also the third most visited amusement park in Europe, behind Disneyland Paris and Europa-Park, and well ahead of PortAventura World, although it is much better known in the eyes of the French. The famous travel platform Tripadvisor even ranks it among the best establishments on its site, thanks to its excellent reviews.

Built on the theme of fairy tales and legends, it is one of the first modern parks in the world: it is Efteling, the largest resort in the Netherlands, inaugurated in 1952. Very well known in the country, but also in Germany and Belgium, it is visited by more than 5.5 million people per year. Located in the village of Kaatsheuvel, not far from the Belgian border, the park is accessible in just 2.5 hours by train from Lille or around 4.5 hours from Paris for example.

And with its 36 attractions, but also its shows, Efteling is suitable for the whole family: by strolling around the park map, you can even select the rides that are suitable for “toddlers” or conversely “for the more daring”, or even those where you risk getting wet! Rollercoasters, magical settings, rafting, night shows, folkloric characters… There’s plenty to plan for a day that’s sure to please all the members of your tribe, without leaving anyone out and, above all, without breaking the bank.

Ultimately, Efteling ticks all the boxes: a more accessible price, an already established reputation and attractions that suit everyone. The Dutch park thus stands out as a ready alternative to the giants of the sector, for those who want to benefit from a large European park without emptying their wallet.
