In Le Bourget, in the north of Paris, the International Broadcaster Center (IBC) of the Olympic Games stretches as far as the eye can see. Total surface area: 40,000 square meters of indoor space on a 25-hectare site. Minimarkets, hairdressers, manicurists, post offices where you can buy “souvenir stamps that smell of baguettes” says a professional from Hong Kong… The site, which will be the HQ of the 163 official broadcast media of the competition, is a real city within the city.
In lavender polo shirts, the 8,300 employees of the IBC come and go in the enormous hangars, which normally house the planes of the airfield. However, this time, the size of the center has been reduced by 20% compared to the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, while the audiovisual production of the Paris Olympics will increase by 15%. A feat made possible by the cloud: the use of cloud computing for the storage and transport of images has freed up space, many tasks can now be done remotely.
