For children, school holidays are sometimes synonymous with boredom. Especially during long car journeys, you have to find something to keep them occupied. Children’s podcasts, developed massively by Radio France, but also by youth publishers such as Bayard Jeunesse, Gallimard Jeunesse or L’école des loisirs, are a valuable help and are enjoying increasing success.
The summer of 2024 thus represents a record number of listeners for Radio France’s children’s content. According to the public group, the entire youth catalogue achieved 5.8 million listeners between 1er July and August 23 (all media). Among its flagship podcasts, “Une histoire et… Oli” for 4-8 year-olds (1 million listens in July), “Bestioles” for 5-7 year-olds on the animal world (600,000 listens in July) and “Toudou” for 2-4 year-olds (500,000 listens in July). “Our range of podcasts for children is more successful during school holidays, whether at Christmas or Easter, but especially in July and August when the ‘holiday effect’ is strongest,” underlines Erwann Gaucher, editorial director of the Radio France platform.
