The walls of your apartment or house are hopelessly immaculate and you can no longer stand the sight of them in paint. So, have you already considered putting up wallpaper, but the scale of the task is stopping you? No worries, we have the tip you need.
This is an original way to personalize your space, without blowing your decoration budget and without spending hours on it either. Never short of DIY ideas, the latter has a ready-made solution, which works even more when you are renting and you want to leave no trace of your visit and get your deposit back.
As a great alternative to traditional wallpaper, she had the great idea of putting up… fabric on the wall! And according to her video tutorial, it’s easier than it looks and here’s how to do it. Once you’ve chosen the fabric, it’s clean and wrinkle-free – ideally thick enough to prevent it from tearing when you put it up – it’s time to prepare the wall. The wall must be smooth, clean, dry and free of imperfections.
After cutting the fabric to the right size, leaving a few extra centimeters at the top and bottom for adjustments, apply the wallpaper paste with a brush to spread it evenly. But you can also use a spray paste, applying it directly to the fabric in this case. For the actual installation, start at the top of the wall, carefully aligning the fabric. Then smooth it from the center to the edges to remove air bubbles and possible wrinkles.
Once the fabric is in place, cut off the excess at the top and bottom with a craft knife or sharp scissors. And let dry completely. Drying time may vary depending on the type of glue used.
If you are renting, note that some glues can leave residue or marks on the wall. If you are concerned about possible damage, consider using a less permanent glue, such as a repositionable spray glue. This option will allow you to remove the fabric more easily without damaging the wall.
Speaking of removal, when you decide to remove the fabric, heat the glue slightly with a hair dryer to soften it, which will make removal easier. Then clean the glue residue with a product suitable for the type of wall. By following these steps, you will be able to enjoy a beautiful fabric wall while minimizing the risk of permanent damage, especially if you are not the owner.
