New twist in the United States. The special prosecutor investigating the case against former US President Donald Trump for unlawful attempts to reverse the results of the 2020 election published, this Tuesday, a revised indictment to take into account a recent decision of the Supreme Court.
The document, which contains the same four counts as the previous one, issued on August 1, 2023, “reflects the prosecution’s willingness to respect and implement the findings and instructions of the Supreme Court,” Justice Department spokesman Peter Carr said in a statement.
He was referring to the unprecedented ruling by the country’s highest court on July 1 granting the president of the United States broad criminal immunity.
The campaign is in full swing
The announcement comes as the US presidential campaign was shaken up in July by the withdrawal of Joe Biden in favour of his vice-president, Kamala Harris, who was nominated last week by the Democratic Party. Harris is set to face Donald Trump on 10 September in a televised debate on ABC.
