The information intrigued the specialist press across the Atlantic. This summer, the Californian start-up ProRata AI announced a €25 million fundraising round and partnerships with major media groups, such as the Financial Times, The Atlantic and Universal Music Group. Its promise? A technology that allows attributing sources used by generative artificial intelligence (AI) in order to fairly remunerate publishers.
“The idea to create ProRata AI came to me after the lawsuits launched by the ‘New York Times’ against OpenAI,” explains Bill Gross, the CEO of the start-up. As a reminder, the American daily accuses the company behind ChatGPT of copyright violations. “I wanted to create an ethical system where all actors would come out winners,” adds the co-founder.
