The meeting was expected and, as many expected, it turned into a free-for-all. On Tuesday evening, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump debated on television for the first time. The event, organized on the American channel ABC, is at this stage the only meeting planned between the two candidates.
“I’ve traveled the world as vice president of the United States and world leaders are laughing at Donald Trump,” the Democratic candidate said, before adding: “I’ve spoken to military leaders, some of whom worked with you, and they say you’re a disgrace.”
Democracy and abortion
For his part, the Republican candidate affirmed that “if (Kamala Harris) were elected (…) it would be the end of our country. She is a Marxist. Everyone knows she is a Marxist. Her father is a Marxist professor of economics, and he taught her well.”
Abortion and the dangers to democracy, in particular, were subjects of heated exchanges between the two candidates. “Les Echos” invites you to watch the key passages of the debate again on video.
