– A first tax deduction will be made from your bank account on September 26.
As every year, the tax authorities settle their accounts with taxpayers and proceed to catch up on their income tax. And it’s almost time to pay out for 9.8 million tax householdssince the tax authorities will be collecting their income tax balance from them in the coming days. A levy that will unfortunately not be painless since the individuals concerned owe no less than 2,127 euros, on average, to the tax authorities. If you have not opted for direct debit and you use the Internet, a smartphone or a tablet to pay this balance, you must pay this amount in full before Saturday, September 21 at midnight.
If, on the other hand, the tax authorities make a withdrawal from your bank account, the rules are different. Is your income tax balance less than 300 euros? A single withdrawal will be made on Thursday, September 26. Above this amount, the operation is done in four timeswith an identical deduction each time – for example, 250 euros if you owe a total of 1,000 euros to the tax authorities. First on September 26, then on October 25, November 25 and December 27. To find out your situation and the amount of upcoming deductions, go to your 2023 income tax notice available in your personal space on impots.gouv.fr, in the “Documents” section. This will allow you to ensure that your bank account has sufficient funds, which is never certain at the end of the month.
Your steps to avoid a catch-up
As a reminder, you can request a payment deadline to the tax authorities if you are facing financial difficulties. If you are in this situation, act as quickly as possible, while keeping in mind that in the absence of a response from the tax authorities, you must respect the imposed timetable. Same advice if you have made a corrective declaration resulting in a reduction of your income tax and that The tax administration contests these changes or asks you to provide proof.
Finally, to avoid having to repay the tax authorities again next year, make sure to update your withholding tax rate. Because even if the latter is modified from this September – a change visible on your next pay slip – it does not take into account your possible salary increase this year. It is therefore up to you to do the necessary on the impots.gouv.fr website.
