Before he became successful, Alain Chamfort had some difficult experiences. And at one time, he even lived with a very famous singer in his large apartment near Paris…
This Sunday, September 22, singer Alain Chamfort was one of Frédéric Lopez’s guests on his show, A Sunday in the CountrysideOn France 2, he opened his heart and told a rather surprising anecdote.
Which crooner did Alain Chamfort live with?
“1968, you live with Dick Rivers”the 57-year-old presenter first asked, offering his guest a helping hand. “I’m saying it like that on purpose. I’m taking a shortcut, but it’s up to you to tell me the story.”Without further ado, Alain Chamfort, with a smile on his lips, was keen to put things into context: “Let’s say that in 1968, there was a very, very intense month. But above all a month of strikes where everything was stopped in Paris. I, who was still living with my parents at that time, so next to Enghien-les-Bains, in Eaubonne, I could no longer go home.”.
And to the performer of the hits Manureva, Bamboo or even Fever in the blood to specify: “And one of Jacques’ musicians (Dutronc, editor’s note) said to me: ‘Hey, I’m going to introduce you to Dick, because he lives in a very large apartment in Neuilly, and there are lots of rooms, and lots of people who meet up there, who he welcomes into his home. Like a squat. He may have been at home…” Amused, Frédéric Lopez did not fail to point out that a squat in a large apartment in Neuilly-sur-Seine, there are worse things!
Alain Chamfort owes his solo career to Dick Rivers… in spite of himself!
The story goes that during this impromptu shared accommodation, Dick Rivers convinced the young Alain Le Gouvic, who became Alain Chamfort, to start a solo career.
A remarkable start to his singing career, which nevertheless failed to convince the singer Lio’s former partner. “I found myself in the studio singing my thing. I wasn’t very convinced of what I was doing. And then the record came out (…) Suddenly I was a singer. But I didn’t have the qualities for that. So I didn’t feel at all comfortable in my place.”detailed Alain Chamfort.
