The G7 in Matera on equal opportunities and female empowerment comes to life (4-6 October). In view of a meeting in which the delegations, on 5 October, were welcomed by the Italian Minister for Family and Equal Opportunities, Eugenia Roccella. A document drawn up by “F7 – Family7” engagement group dedicated to family issues was delivered to her in recent days.
«In a historical moment in which demographic challenges are becoming increasingly urgent, it is necessary to increase awareness of the centrality of the family» he states Adriano Bordignonpresident of the National Forum of Family Associations. «The Italian presidency of the G7 can become a precious opportunity to create an international platform aimed at catalyzing attention on this crucial issue. In this sense, the proposal to form a working group such as “Family 7” with organizations from the seven G7 member countries appears not only appropriate but necessary, in order to promote the topic of family and birth support policies on a global scale ».
«We believe that international recognition of the function of the family is necessaryan essential pillar of our societies also considering that demographic issues and the protection of equal opportunities concern every nation on the planet. In this regard, family associations can provide a concrete example demonstrating the protagonism of the family and family networks” continues Bordignon.
Then, a reference to the decisive problem of the birth rate cannot be missing. «The challenges posed by the winter birth rate highlight the importance of addressing the evolving needs of an aging population, especially in the G7 countries, and of the essential support for families. Comprehensive policies that take these factors into account can help create more inclusive and sustainable communities. Supporting families, in fact, should not be considered as a cost but as a public investment, because it is the best way to guarantee a sustainable future.”
The theme is clear. «Families are the fulcrum of every society: they guarantee the transmission of values, the growth of future citizens and constitute the first nucleus of social support, but at the same time they are a strategic factor for the economies of different countries. However, too often policies do not take into account their real needs. It is therefore essential to create an international alliance that puts families at the center of economic and social strategies. “Family 7″ will be able to contribute more effectively to the development of shared proposals that push the G7 governments to develop concrete measures to reverse the trend of demographic decline, while supporting families and guaranteeing a more stable and prosperous future for the new generations” .
The document “Family7 Demands to Build an Intergenerational, Solidary, Resilient and Sustainable Society” was presented to Minister Roccella by Adriano Bordignonpresident of the Family Associations Forum, spoke e Vincenzo Bassipresident of the Federation of Catholic Family Associations in Europe.
