Coats, throws and other winter accessories often cannot be machine washed. No need to go to the dry cleaners, you can do dry cleaning without leaving your home.
Because their fibers are delicate that might shrink or lose their shape or because they have a particular dye, some textiles must be dry cleaned. Concretely, it is necessary to replace the water that these tissues cannot tolerate with chemical solvents. When you go to the dry cleaners, the garment or item to be cleaned is then placed in a washing machine which operates with a liquid solvent sprayed on the fabrics, avoiding excessive friction. Small downside, this washing is not always very ecological and it can be quite expensive, not to mention the fact that you also have to go to the dry cleaner to drop off and pick up the accessory. To save yourself a lot of hassle, dry cleaning at home is the solution to giving your textiles a fresh look. Good news, it’s very simple.
To carry out dry cleaning without going to the dry cleaners, you will need a single product that is natural, very absorbent and particularly effective in removing greasy stains. Before you begin, lay the part to be cleaned on a flat, clean surface, then use a soft brush to remove surface dirt such as dust. Then, sprinkle Sommières earth generously on the stains, but also on the dirty areas, paying particular attention to the elbows, collars and wrists. For large areas, sprinkle soil evenly over the entire fabric. You must then leave the powder to act for at least 3 hours, the ideal being to wait overnight to see optimal results, because the longer it remains in contact with the fabric, the more it will absorb dirt. Then use a soft brush to remove the Sommières soil, making sure to brush in the direction of the fiber so as not to damage it.
The advantage of Sommières soil is that your textile will not have any unpleasant odor after cleaning. You can use this method on many fabrics such as cotton or wool and even some more delicate ones, in this case it is always recommended to do a test beforehand, in an inconspicuous place.
