One thing is certain, it is that retirees are far from being in the same boat. According to the annual report of the Pension Orientation Council (Cor), published last June, all retirees under direct law (as opposed to secondary law, the survivor’s pension allocated to the surviving spouse) received, on average , 1,580 euros pension each month in 2021… But this is only an average for all types and pension plans combined. From one plan to another, in fact, the pensions paid vary by a factor of three.
“The main affiliation scheme is an important explanatory factor for differences in pension amounts”notes Le Cor in his report. And among the best-off, there are retirees affiliated to special schemes. Those who have in fact made a career at SNCF, RATP or the Banque de France, among others, indeed perceived 2,550 euros pension each month in 2021. This is three times more than the amounts paid to farmers that same year. And this is more than 1.5 times the average pension paid to all direct pensioners. Retirees from liberal professions and civil servants of the State also have better money than the rest of retirees with an average of 2,390 and 2,280 euros per month.
Glaring inequalities between women and men
If we analyze the figures by genre, the photography differs slightly. Among women in particular, it is those who have had a career as a civil servant of the State who pocket the largest pensions. In 2021, they actually affected 2,100 euros per month on average. That is 1.7 times more than the average pension paid to all directly retired women. And above all, it is three times higher than the pension received by women farmers.
Retirement: what is the pension gap between men and women?
Among men, it is retirees from liberal professions who are doing the best with an average pension of 2,740 euros per month in 2021. They are slightly ahead of men affiliated to special schemes who received 2,700 euros. per month. That is to say approximately 1.4 times more than the average pension paid to all directly retired men. And above all, it is 2.6 times more than the pensions paid to former farmers.
