What is the shared child education benefit (Prepared) ?
The Shared Child Education Benefit (PreParE) is one of the systems put in place as part of the Young Child Care Benefit (PAJE). It aims to financially support parents who choose to reduce or stop their activity to care for their child under the age of three, in addition to existing family support.
What are the conditions for receiving PreParE?
Age of the child, interruption of professional activity and validation of quarters of old-age contributions
PreParE can be awarded to the mother, to the father, to both parents at the same time or successively. This financial assistance is granted to people who meet the following conditions:
- meet the conditions to benefit from social benefits
- have at least one child under three years old or under 20 years old in the case of adoption;
- have totally or partially interrupted their professional activity;
- have validated at least eight quarters of old-age contributions during the last two years if the applicant has one dependent child, during the last four years if the applicant has two dependent children, during the last five years if the applicant has three or more dependent children.
Work periods concerned
In addition to professional activity, other periods are considered as work periods by the PreParE:
- compensated maternity leave,
- compensated sick leave,
- paid professional training,
- compensated unemployment and periods of receipt of PreParE (from the 2nd child).

What documents are needed for a PreParE application?
For parents who are not beneficiaries
For parents covered by the general scheme, the PreParE application must be made to their Caf at the end of maternity or adoption leave, and as soon as the applicant has ceased or reduced their activity. It is then necessary to create an account on the Caf.fr or MSA.fr website.
Cerfa form and supporting documents
Then, complete the Cerfa forms n°11423 (declaration of situation) and n°12324 (PreParE request). The following documents must then be provided:
- proof of cessation or reduction of activity (certificate from the employer),
- identity document,
- proof of address,
- extract from the child’s birth certificate,
- RIB,
- certificate of health insurance rights.
For parents receiving benefits
For beneficiaries, only the Cerfa form n°12324 (PreParE request) must be sent to the CAF. You can download it from the Caf.fr website. To do this, you must:
- log in to your account,
- select the section “Simulate or request a benefit”, then “children” and “request for shared child education benefit,
- complete the form and sign it,
- provide the requested documents,
- send everything to Caf via your personal account or by mail.
For parents covered by the agricultural regime
The PreParE request must be made to their MSA via the Cerfa forms n°11423 (declaration of situation) and n°12324 (PreParE request) for people who are not yet beneficiaries. For beneficiaries, only the PreParE application form is necessary.

What is the amount of PreParE in 2024 and 2025?
The amount of PreParE is linked to the professional situation of the applicant parent. Here are the amounts according to the profile of the recipient of the April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025 :
- Its monthly amount is 448.42 euros if the parent has completely interrupted their professional activity.
- Its monthly amount is 289.89 euros if the parent is part-time (50% maximum).
- Its monthly amount is 167.22 euros if the parent is part-time between 50% and 80%.
To note : within a couple, both parents can combine their PreParE, but the total amount of the two aids must not exceed 448.42 euros.

How long is the child’s shared education benefit paid?
PreParE 2024 payment schedule
The PreParE is paid on the 5th of the month by the Caf or the MSA. If the 5th falls on a Saturday or Sunday, payment is made on the nearest business day (excluding weekends and public holidays). Here is the 2024 calendar:

Duration of payment of the shared child education benefit
The right to PreParE is available from the first full month of parental leave. The payment duration depends on the recipient’s situation:
- for 6 months for each parent within the limit of the child’s 1st birthday for couples with a child;
- for 24 months for each parent until the 3rd birthday of the youngest child for couples with more than two children:
- until the month preceding the 1st birthday of the child for a single parent with a child;
- until the 3rd birthday of the youngest child for single parents with more than two children.
To note : in the case of adoption, PreParE is paid during the first 12 months of the child’s presence in the home.
In what cases is the PrePare payment extended?
PreParE payment can be extended under certain conditions:
The payment is then extended until the month of August following the child’s third birthday.

Who can benefit from the increased PreParE?
More financial aid
Certain parents can benefit from the increased PreParE as long as they meet the following conditions:
- Have at least three dependent children.
- Have stopped working.
- Have validated at least eight quarters of retirement contributions over the last five years.
Amount of the increased PreParE 2024-2025
From April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025, the amount of the increased PreParE is 732.97 euross per month and per family. It is paid for eight months maximum for each parent, within the limit of the month preceding the 1st birthday of the youngest child for couples and until the 1st birthday of the youngest child for single parents.
To note : impossible to combine PreParE and increased PreParE.

Can we combine the PreParE with the CMG?
PreParE cannot be combined with:
On the other hand, it can be combined with their salary for two months if the applicant has several children, one of them is between 18 and 29 months old, and the applicant returns to full-time or part-time work. Please note, this combination with a salary is not possible if the applicant benefits from the increased PreParE or if they only have one child.
