Lina Gervasi is a theremin player, the fascinating electronic instrument that reproduces a sound similar to that of a female voice. After having been directed last July to Ravenna and Lampedusa by Riccardo Muti in the Stabat Mater composed of John Sollima for Theremin, countertenor, orchestra and choir, now publishes the video of Soul Whisperer, song taken from his album Beyond the Mirror.
The album recounts the educational journey of the protagonist, David, and Soul Whisperer refers to the moment in which the grandfather reveals to his grandson some important information for his inner growth.
In the audio of the song there is the real voice of sweet Lina, Lina Gervasi’s grandmother, played in the video by Gina, a strong and courageous woman, who lived every day of her life with a deep faith; the two women are united by having gone through life with an open heart and a mind ready to learn and give continuously. Gina not only represents the memory of her grandmother, but the very essence of that wisdom, a precious gift made of stories, caresses and eloquent looks. Both women are cultured, but their culture goes beyond books: it is a culture of respect, understanding, empathy and that tenderness that envelops anyone who is or has been next to them.
The video was shot on the splendid beach of Priolo Gargallo, the town of Gervasi. The bench that appears there is part of the dearest memories that link the artist to his grandmother. The view of the sea and the sound of the waves convey calm and serenity. Even the choice of location is a way to celebrate one’s roots and keep the memory of loved ones alive.
Lina herself explains: “The role of grandparents is irreplaceable in the transmission of knowledge and culture between different generations: they are witnesses of the past, custodians of traditions, values and stories that would otherwise risk being lost over time. Each of their gestures contains ancient wisdom, made up of small things, such as recipes passed down orally or songs sung in a low voice. But their love does not limit itself to welcoming us; it pushes us to look forward, to grow with deep roots and strong wings. This is precisely the heart of my project: to make the memory of my sweet grandmother eternal, to keep her voice and her wisdom alive, so that her words and her advice are never lost. I want that heritage of love, stories and teachings to become accessible to all, like a lantern that illuminates the path of those who, like me, seek guidance in moments of confusion.
I dedicated my project entirely Beyond the Mirror to my sweet grandmother Lina.”
