The objective of today’s renovation? Creating an additional bedroom was no easy feat. Fortunately, thanks to the know-how of interior designer Camille Hermand, it was able to see the light of day, here’s how.
This apartment is located in a building in the Marais, dating from 1900. Partitioned as was often the case before, darkened by exposed beams, dark furniture and parquet flooring, it just needed to be modernized. Initially, there was a large entrance and a toilet, a large living room on the left and the closed kitchen on the right, a hallway and two bedrooms with a bathroom in the middle. Despite a comfortable surface area of 72 m², this Parisian apartment lacked a third sleeping area to completely please its new owners. Indeed, this expatriate couple in Asia wanted a pied-à-terre for their visits to the capital, whether as a couple or with their children. Entrusted to interior designer Camille Hermand, the transformation of the premises will leave you speechless.
Formerly arranged in a room dedicated to it, the kitchen now opens onto the living room, enough to invite a third bedroom into this space. Very large, the second bedroom of the apartment has been partly reduced in order to leave more space for the one created in the old kitchen. And, originally, the first room of the premises was accessible via a simple door from the corridor, this direction of circulation was to change. Too imposing in terms of space, but also visually, this dark piece of solid wood furniture (see photo at the start of the article) could not be kept.
Freed from this overly bulky dark wood layout, the master suite breathes again. Closed, the partition on which the furniture of yesteryear rested now accommodates a dressing room, very well thought out, which becomes one with the wall against which it is leaning. With an IKEA furniture base, it is tailor-made and blends into the decor of this cleverly stripped-down bedroom.
To manage to fit out three bedrooms in 72 m², Camille Hermand had to be cunning. This is why she chose to remove the original partition, between the living room and the bedroom, which was non-load-bearing. It is now behind a beautiful sliding bay window that the master bedroom is nestled. Designed as an extension of the living room, the latter can be modulated as desired. When they are alone, parents can leave their room open whenever they want. We fell in love with the bookcase headboard, shaped to match this slanted wall. On the ceiling, the fringed Parasol pendant light from Honoré Déco puts on a show.
At nightfall or when the children are there, this sublime bay window can be closed. And once its thick curtains are drawn, the master bedroom is full of privacy. Made by the craftsmen of ART (Agencement Rénovation Terrasse), a company specializing in mirrorwork, metallurgy, locksmithing and closure, this sliding window revisits the glass roof spirit with a masterful hand and with modernity. We can only be inspired by it.
