The house in which Diana Spencer grew up can be rented for a wedding… At a price that is far from affordable.
Getting married in a castle is the dream of many people, and there is something for everyone: medieval castle, Renaissance residence, small manor, enormous palace… Something to satisfy all desires and all budgets. It is also a good way for the owners of these domains to cover the cost of their management. And if a historical figure or celebrity lived there, this allows the price to go up a little more! This is how Lady Diana’s childhood home ended up on the wedding rental venue market.
Lady Di grew up at Althorp House in central England, which has been owned by the Spencer family since the 16th century. His brother, Count Charles Spencer, who is the current owner, decided to open it to wedding rentals, reports the Mirror. The Elysian Estates website, through which it is possible to rent it, specifies that it can accommodate 140 people in the dining room, 200 in the living room, and 250 in the reception room. Up to 54 people can sleep there, and it is possible to enjoy the incredible exteriors of the property. With one exception, however: it is not authorized to visit the grave of the mother of Princes William and Harry.
In addition to the extraordinary decor of this historic residence, many options are possible: private chef, beverage services, helicopter transfers, pianist, fireworks, catering, music, transportation, entertainment, etc. Finally, it is possible to provide spa treatments for the young bride or her guests. A luxury service!
However, all this comes at a cost. And the Elysian Estates platform does not mention it, which suggests that it is particularly high. According to an estimate of Mirroryou would have to pay around ten thousand pounds per night. In 2013, Charles Spencer was heavily criticized for offering wealthy tourists the chance to rent Althorp through a travel agency for £25,000 (29,105 euros) per night. This is probably why he does not want the current rental price to be public, but it gives an idea of the type of rates charged.
This is obviously not within everyone’s budget, but people who are curious to see the place where Diana Spencer grew up can still go take a look. The house can be visited every summer, from 1er July to August 31, and the profits are donated to the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. In summer 2024, prices are £27 (31 euros) for an adult and £16 (19 euros) for children aged 5 to 16 (free under 5 years) to visit the house and exteriors, and £20 (23 euros) per adult and £12 (14 euros) for 5-16 year olds to visit the gardens. It’s already much more accessible!
