Do you want to be warm at home without increasing the heating thermostat and your energy bill? Jonathan has a simple solution.
Every winter, it’s the same story: we would like to have a pleasant temperature in the house, but we often feel obliged to lower the thermostat on the radiators to avoid a hefty bill. What if you no longer had to choose between comfort and savings? In any case, this is what content creator Jonathan Coni is proposing, who has found a simple and economical solution to make his radiators more efficient. Supported by a measuring device, it demonstrates that this small change allows it to gain two degrees of heat without having to touch the radiator settings. Here’s how to do it.
Increasing the heat of your radiator is not very complicated. All you need is a roll of reflective radiator panel which can be found in DIY stores, but also at Action for 3.99 euros. Thanks to its aluminum surface, this material has a strong insulating power and prevents heat loss from the radiator to the wall. On the contrary, it reflects heat towards the room and the temperature then becomes more pleasant.
Its installation is accessible to everyone. The panel in roll form simply needs to be cut according to the size of your radiators so that it can be installed invisibly. It then slides between the wall and this one to create a screen. To fix it, you can choose a fastening system or opt for adhesive tape which in this case you will have to choose heat resistant. It is crucial to attach it correctly to prevent it from obstructing air circulation or damaging the wall.
According to the Environment and Energy Management Agency, this device allows energy savings of 5 to 10% provided that a reflector is installed on each radiator in the home. This is particularly recommended if the walls are poorly insulated or if you have water radiators. In the case of an electric heater, the effect will be less noticeable, because these devices mainly emit heat by radiation and convection towards the front and very little heat is diffused to the rear. In addition to a reflector, you can consider adding an insulating panel in the case of a poorly insulated home where heat loss through the wall would be significant.
