Tick tock, what if the time had come to make a new start? While Parisians have been fleeing the capital for several years now to settle in several provincial towns – Lyon, Nantes and Bordeaux in particular – there is an unexpected city which also deserves a spotlight. And for good reason: it has just been elected the least stressful in France in 2024 (and no, it is not in the middle of the campaign!).
The grass would be greener elsewhere it seems… Not everyone has the same criteria when it comes to housing: larger, closer to the sea, in the mountains, in a city with public transport or still in new only. And if many can no longer stand the hustle and bustle of big cities, here is a ranking that should please them. Indeed, the language learning platform, Preplyconducted a new study to establish a ranking of the least and most stressful cities in France!
On what basis? “Preply analyzed the sentiment of around 56,000 Reddit comments relating to a list of 28 French cities, using the ‘Natural Language Toolkit’, to create a ranking based on emotion“, the platform said in a press release. Urban life is often accompanied by a more intense pace of life than in the countryside: traffic jams, crowds, transport problems, micro-aggressions, etc. This thus promotes the creation of stressful living environments and these “are usually reflected in the way we talk about certain cities, both in language and tone.”
Thus, according to this ranking – which takes a stress rating scale ranging from 1 to 100 – we find in third position of the least stressful cities in France, the city of Toulouse. Then, on the second step of the podium, we find Le Mans. But which city wins the gold medal? This is the city of Le Havre. It is therefore in this town in Normandy, on the banks of the Channel (where it is also possible to buy an apartment with a sea view without breaking the bank too much) that life is good. It thus steals the place of Aix-en-Provence, designated last year by a survey of the Figaro as the least stressful in France.
And the top 3 most stressful cities in the country? It is composed, in order, as is: Nice, Dijon then Paris.
