This year, the city of romanticism par excellence is implementing a new measure which may not please tourists. Between April and July 2024, an entry tax must be paid. The dates to know.
Strolling through the romantic city of Venice will now cost you a few euros. If for your next vacation, you have chosen the flagship destination of lovers, you will have to pay to enter it. The city’s municipal council made an unprecedented decision on September 5, 2023 to cope with surcourism: set up a tax on certain days of the year, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, for tourists who want to enter the city. The city of Doges is the only area concerned, there is no “Right of access for those who go to one of the smallest lagoon islands”, specifies the city of Venice on the dedicated platform.
The price of this pass, which for the moment is experimental, is 5 euros per person and per day. To be settled before your arrival on the island. And do not even imagine it fraud, because once paid online on the CDA.Ve.it site, a QR code is attributed to each person. It is therefore essential when you arrive at the time of checks. If you do not respect the rule, you expose yourself to a salty fine, in the amount of 300 euros.
In total, the tax will be applicable for 29 days a year, between April and July 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Here are the dates retained by the Italian municipality for experimentation:
- From April 25 to 30, 2024;
- From 1ᵉʳ to May 5, 2024;
- 11, 12, 18, 18, 19, 25 and 26, 2024;
- 8, 9, 15, 16, 16, 22, 23, 29, 29 and 30, 2024;
- July 6, 7, 13 and 14, 2024.
These days were of course not chosen by chance. “”It is a way of discouraging entry into the city during particularly frequented days And a way of living better in the city, both as a tourist than as a resident “,, explained Michele Zuin, a city counselor. Only tourists are affected by this measure. Residents and people born in Venice are exempt from this tax. If they are checked, they will just have to present an identity document. Requests for derogation can also be granted if you meet certain conditions (student, worker, participating in a sporting event, etc.).
