Perhaps the most exciting moment of the entire ceremony of the last edition of the Oscars was the moment of the award ceremony of Zoe Saldana, to whom the prestigious statuette as the best supporting actress for the film “Emilia Perez” went.
A prize that definitively consecrates the career that began twenty -five years ago of this actress at the first great dramatic role in an author film (As a protagonist, in reality, he does not deceive the category in which he received the Oscar) after many films on large budgets and collection champions (Guardians of the Galaxy, Avatar, Avengers, Star Trek …).
In the last film, directed by Jacques Audiard, he played the role of Rita Moro Castro, a lawyer of a great study by Mexico City who receives an offer to help Juan Manitas Del Monte (Karla Sofia Gascon), a powerful boss of the Mexican drug sign to retire from his shady business and disappear forever.
From the stage of the Dolby Theater of Los Angeles, the actress, the daughter of immigrants of Dominican origin, withdrawing the prize in tears has in turn moved everyone by talking almost exclusively of the family.
First of all of his origin: “To my mom, my dad and my sisters Mariel and Cisely. Everything I made of courageous, outrageous and good in my whole life is merit. My grandmother arrived in this country in 1961. I am a proud daughter of immigrant parents with dreams, dignity and laborious hands ».
The family also retains a special place in the life of this great actress today and has testified it in a worldly always on that stage: «Thanks infinite to my husband With that beautiful hair. The greatest honor of my life is your partner. You hung the moon and our splendid and perfect children, Cy, Bowie and Zen, fill our sky of stars every night ».
A firm point that is based precisely on the link of this planetary star of cinema with Her husband Marco Perego, an artist born in Salò in the province of Brescia in 1979. After a short football career in the youth of important teams and a bad injury, he leaves sport and Italy to cultivate his great passion, art. He arrives in New York and operates after work his multiform talent is increasingly appreciated.
An artistic couple, Saldana & Perego, who when the opportunity presents itself loves to work together. It happened with the debut film at the cinema as a director of Perego, the feature film The Absence of Eden, played by Zoe.
Experience that was repeated in 2024 with the short film where he was also running for the Oscars, who entered the shortlist of the best live action short film. A particular, unique job because they arose from an original challenge: to become one of the installations of the Holy See Pavilion, created by the Dicastery for Culture and Education, at the 60 ‘Biennale di Arte di Venezia, visited by Pope Francis on April 28, 2024.
Written by Perego together with the screenwriter Alexander Dinelaris (Oscar winner for “Birdman”) The short is set in the women’s prison of Judic and narrates the story of a prisoner (Zoe Saldana) at the end of the sentence that is preparing to go out bringing with him memories – small objects, strands of hair – of the holders held. And while she is about to regain freedom crosses another woman (Gaia Scotellaro) who making the reverse path begins the time of her detention.
In the film they are also engaged about twenty “real” prisoners, in the part of itself. A heartfelt interpretation, that of Salandana in this short film, the result not only of her skill but made intense by the time that the actress shared with the inmates to prepare the film and for the time of filming.
Ovecote was then presented on the occasion of the 81st Venice International Film Festival, in collaboration with the Ente of the Entertainment Foundation.
