“Meloni-Calenda, the same agenda”: the M5S takes to the streets against the Resto

«Today, Meloni’s honeymoon is broken today built with lies. Today the alternative is built », thundered Giuseppe Conte, leader of the 5 Star Movement, from the stage of the National event against the Resto that took place in Rome on Saturday 5 April. A crowded square, a heterogeneous crowd, not only enrolled in the movement. «I thank those who are here even without having the M5S card or who do not share some of our positions. We welcome you with respect. This square is of those who want peace ».

The recurrent slogan was a dry “no” to the European Resto Plan approved by the Meloni government, according to Conte without any parliamentary mandate. “Another failure of this government – he said – will remain in history”.

Next to the M5S also a delegation of the Democratic Party, with the group leader in the front row to the Senate Francesco Boccia, Susanna Camusso, Marco Furfaro, Antonio Misiani, Paolo Giani and Sandro Ruotolo. Boccia spoke clearly: «Some things divide us from the M5S but others unite us. We agree on the criticism of the Running to the rearmament of the 27 States and the need to intensify diplomatic efforts. With the 5s we are already allies in many local administrations. Today we are here to say that there is an important piece of the opposition. And we want to send Giorgia Meloni and Matteo Salvini home ».

Under the stage, one that plays with irony and anger stands out among the signs: “Put Meloni in your cannons”. Other banners denounce the disproportion between military spending and funds intended for health, school, work, or emergencies such as earthquakes and floods.

Meloni, Crosetto, Calenda: the names that most often resort among the targets of the slogans shouted by the protesters. One above all: “Meloni-Calenda, the same agenda”. Still others, especially among the younger demonstrators, repeat: “Meloni and Crosetto remove the helmet”.

The event also faces the faces of the world of communication. The influencer De Crescenzo, interviewed by Ansa, said: «I am thinking of doing something in politics. I brought many people here today, it is important to be there ».

Meanwhile in Milan, while in the center another demonstration against the rearmament promoted by Marco Rizzo, coordinator of Sovereign and popular democracytwo other processions took shape: the usual pro Palestine garrison on Saturday afternoon, and the “widespread mobilization” against the Security Decree. All united by a common denominator: the refusal of the war and a drift that, according to the organizers, “is bringing us from one emergency to another to legitimize authoritarian policies”.

A day that has seen different squares, but a shared message: Italy does not want to become a militarized country, nor remain silent in front of those who, in the name of European defense, invest more in arms than in essential services.
