Theater as an act of courage, testimony, rebirth. Friday 9 May, at 9 pm, the curtain of the Teatro del Popolo in Rapolano Terme (Siena) will get up on I am (again) alivethe piece written by the journalist Romina Gobbo a few months after the mastectomy who saved her life. A personal, sincere, never pathetic voice that faces breast cancer with lucidity and hope.
“I am proof of it. Because “I am (still) alive”, “writes the author, who wanted to transform her experience into a theatrical work, staging the pain, but also the strength and beauty of resilience. The actress Silvia Budri will interpret her: «All in one breath, in a sort of emotional apnea: this was the impact on my first reading. I am happy to be able to give voice to a rebirth, and a breath to many women ».
To accompany her on stage, Elisa Malatesti (aka Vocedanima), with Celtic harp and percussion. “Music – he explains – like a language of the soul, joins words and images, now becoming melody, now free sound”. The integral part of the show are the visuals made by Beatrice Mancini, inspired by the photo shoot “A bed with Marilyn” by Douglas Kirkland: “An intimate atmosphere, a respectful and powerful look, which returns strength, identity and beauty to the woman, even in the disease”.
The evening will be presented by Dafne Rossi, president of the “Serena” Association, a help group for women operated on the breast, and will see the intervention of Dr. Federica Fantozzi, director of the Complex Operations Unit of Senology of Siena.
The initiative is promoted by the Pia Confraternity of Misericordia di Rapolano Terme, which has always been committed to assistance to the sick and the most fragile. “Ours is a country where 80% of the population is active in volunteering,” explains governor Fabrizio Tofani. “This piece is a way to reflect and raise awareness of a great topical problem.”
According to the most recent data, 55 thousand women receive a diagnosis of breast cancer every year. Telling it is not simple. But, with the voice of art, the strength of the story and the courage to get naked, it is possible to transform fear into awareness and fragility into new life.
