Knowing that recruiters spend an average of 6 seconds to scrutinize a CV before deciding a more in -depth reading, every detail is important. This is why there is a line that you should delete without hesitation, at the risk of serving yourself.

The CV is your passport for a job interview, much more than a cover letter! Recruiters, often flooded with applications, have no time to waste. They use strict criteria to sort applications in the blink of an eye and sometimes even ats. A bad formulation, an illegible layout or superfluous information may be enough to dismiss you from the race.

“For your CV, be clear and concise to have the most impact. Avoid shots such as” hard worker “,” team spirit “and” goat “, because they bring little value”, explains Bethany Windsor, career expert. In France, the only personal information required on a CV is the name, the city of residence, the telephone number and the email address. The rest is optional. However, many who add their civil status, their nationality, even a photo. However, discrimination in hiring is a well -documented reality.

Article L1132-1 of the Labor Code prohibits any discrimination based on personal criteria, including age, sex, origin or physical appearance. Despite this, discrimination persists: a study by the defender of rights of 2017 shows that age is indeed the second factor of discrimination in employment, just after sex. In other words, your age can unconsciously influence the perception of a recruiter on your candidacy!

Young people under 25 are sometimes deemed too inexperienced for certain positions, while those over 45 can be perceived as too expensive or less familiar to new technologies. In other words, no need to add this information to your CV, it can play against you.

However, there are exceptions. If you are at the start of a career and your youth can be an asset, for example for an internship or a junior post, indicate your age can be relevant. In certain sectors where experience is valued, displaying a certain age can also reassure the employer. But, in most cases, it is better to abstain. Rather than giving your age or date of birth, highlight your skills, achievements and professional qualities. It will be much more profitable for you!
