Despite all the goodwill of its former owners, this living room lacked soul. From its walls painted in red to its dated tiles and its decoration made of odds and ends, nothing was going.
Here we are at Chesnay, in the Yvelines. It was here that a house in the 1930s would suffer a hell of a facelift. When the architect Anne Fortier buys this house with a comfortable area of 150 m², spread over three levels, with her husband, she intends to give free rein to her imagination, as well as their desires. Immediately, her wise eye sees the potential of this building in the 1930s and her extension and she has only been in a hurry? Reinventing these abandoned spaces.
Once the front door has been crossed, the ground floor of more than 70 m² offered many possibilities to bring warmth and conviviality, while modernizing the 90’s mind that reigned here. The renovation, carried out by the family for three months, is distinguished by a coherent retro chic decoration, both in the old house and in the extension. This common thread creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere, which makes you feel at home immediately.
Let us particularly dwell on the living room. Located on the ground floor, at the front of the house on the street side, it seemed frozen in the past, with this red paint on the walls and this floor tiles, inherited from the former owners.
Thus denatured over the years, the house only asked to regain its charm of yesteryear and this was the case! Passionate about beautiful objects and ace of China, Anne Fortier did not turn her pleasure in instilling this little supplement of soul that was sorely missing here, while taking care not to accumulate trinkets. The challenge was to harmonize the space and the furniture, taking care to enhance its treasures shown without weighing down the room. The choice of white for the walls of the living room then quickly imposed itself, creating a controlled atmosphere which mixes memories, contemporary lights and warm wooden rooms. The new tailor-made library is a centerpiece, it was carefully thought out to expose its possessions and perfectly illustrates this successful balance. Reinforced by the Hungarian Point Parquet on the ground, for an assumed retro chic style.
In total, the renovation of this house and its extension will be returned to them between 70 and 80,000 euros. And the result was worth the candle, this family cocoon with a chic flea market only makes one desire: to leave it anymore.
