For Catholics, marriage in church is one of the seven sacraments. It is therefore a particularly important moment which contains the expression of the grace of God through a priest, his representative.
Wedding in church: the entrance and exit of the church
The entry and exit of the church are two moments that must be taken care of, because they are rich in emotions. To begin with, the guests come first in the church. They are followed by the groom who joins the altar accompanied by his mother on the right. He then looks at his father who takes the bride’s mother in her place. Finally comes the bride to the arm of her father. Both are followed by bridesmaids and children of honor. After the ceremony, the guests come out the first to welcome the new newlyweds and to greet them, as it should be, when they leave the church.
Wedding in church: how is it going?
The celebration of a marriage in church can take two forms: a simple blessing that generally lasts half an hour, or a mass, much longer. In the latter case, the exchange of consents takes place between the readings and the liturgy of the Eucharist, that is to say communion. Nowadays, Most couples choose the blessing, More appropriate if the spouses are not regular practitioners or if people among the guests or the family are not believers or are divorced. The blessing ceremony of a marriage begins with a word of welcome from the priest. Then come a reading from the Bible, a reading of a Psalm, another from the Gospel and the exchange of consents of the couple. This is the most touching moment when the bride and groom say they are “yes” before God. The priest blesses alliances, thus sealing the union. The newlyweds read the prayer of the spouses before receiving the nuptial blessing. Then the children of honor pass with a basket with the guests to collect the offering which will serve for the works of the Church. The priest pronounces the final blessing and the bride and groom and marriage witnesses sign the registers.
