The hot weather could suppose so much to promote hypertension: a doctor explains to us.

The heart is a muscle organ whose operation is similar to that of a pump. He receives blood rich in oxygen in order to distribute it to organs and cells thanks to blood vessels (arteries and veins). The heart contracts to project blood to the arteries. Blood exerts pressure on the arterial walls, it is blood pressure or blood pressure. This tension may vary for several reasons … including the increase in temports.

Heat increases blood pressure: true

“The outside temperature plays on blood pressureconfirms Doctor Jean-Pierre Mercier, general practitioner. Faced with heat, the body defends itself, as evidenced by perspiration. The body draws from its reserves, which increases blood pressure as well as the pulse, which can go between 90 and 120 beats per minute. “ In addition, hot nights and disturbed sleep are also two elements that tend to raise blood pressure. Hypertensive people must therefore be particularly vigilant in the face of heat. Also, they must avoid large temperature variations. Note also that jumping in cold water when it is very hot leads to a vasoconstriction of the blood vessels. The blood pressure suddenly rises, which can cause discomfort or thermal shock. In case of swimming, it is imperative to gradually wet your body to avoid stressing the body.

“”The problem is that, often, you don’t feel the heat coming, especially by the sea. We feel protected by the wind. It is therefore essential to always protect yourself, especially by drinking a lot of water, indicates the doctor. Hydration is extremely important. To avoid dehydration, I always give my patients a tip: prepare a small bottle of water next to your bed and drink it before getting up. It is an excellent reflex that protects from dehydration, potentially serious in the youngest and older. You should never wait to be thirsty for drinking water, thirst is already a sign of dehydration. Drinking water in the morning can gradually hydrate the organs. Drinking water at the beach, when you are thirsty or when you are very hot will not protect you from dehydration“Explains Doctor Mercier.

Thank you to Doctor Jean-Pierre Mercier, general practitioner.
