A few days before the test, Caroline Giraud, a philosophy professor, delivers her forecasts on the subjects that could fall to the Bac de Philo this Monday.
The countdown is launched for the philosophy bac. Thousands of high school students will work on the event this Monday, June 16 from 8 a.m. Four hours of examination, three subjects to choose from, and a common anxiety: what are the subjects about this year? Often feared, this test worries especially for its dissertations with open questions. In general, you have to know your notions and build solid reasoning to make a “good” copy. An instruction that candidates in North America probably had well in mind when they spent the event on May 20. Moreover, their subjects were made public recently by the ministry: the first focused on “Should a work of art still please?”and the second: “Is it enough to do your duty to be fair?“. As for the explanation of text, she focused on an extract from Being and nothingness from Sartre.
Even if the subjects of the bac remain confidential until D -Day, some teachers do not hesitate to share their forecasts each year. This is the case of Caroline Giraud, professor of philosophy and creator of the tiktok @caro.philomaths account. In a recent video, she shared the probable subjects that could, according to her, fall to the philosophy bac this year in mainland France, for the general series. Before revealing them, she explains that these are only “Trends that generally fall, but without guarantee”. To obtain these results, she started by analyzing the subjects given since 2010 and crossing this with the news, she formulated several hypotheses.
The first, “The notion that falls most is the truth, it is one of the central themes that must be revised in priority because in many subjects, even if they are not on the truth, students need to know the notions of distinctions around the truth”, she explains. The notion of duty also appears frequently in subjects: it was among those offered last year. Likewise for the concept of art, which has fallen more than 10 times since 2010, students in North America even had it this year. “Art falls once in two, there is a risk so that it will come back this year”, Add the professor. Another advanced hypothesis: “Since the reform of 2022, the concepts of state, justice and morality have returned each year. Justice and state are often associated, because these are the two major political concepts. We also observe that a political subject is systematically among the dissertations since 2022.”
Conversely, the teacher notes that notions like time, freedom, conscience or the unconscious have not been discussed since 2021. In the same way, the notions of nature and religion have never been the subject of a direct subject. As Caroline Giraud reminds us, it is unlikely that a subject’s title explicitly contains the word “religion”. This does not prevent it from calling it, in particular to enlighten another theme such as politics.
