A newcomer to freezers attempts to reconcile pleasure and nutrition. Less calories, more protein, well -chosen ingredients: a nutritionist has looked into its composition. Verdict without frills.
We thought it was reserved for cheat days. The ice, this pleasure food par excellence, has long been synonymous with sugar, cream, calories. And therefore, guilt. However, a nutritionist has recently sifted a new reference found in supermarket. Less sweet, richer in fiber, with a good dose of protein, it upsets popular ideas. On Tiktok, Tiara, a nutrition professional known under the pseudo @balancedbytiara, analyzed this ice that is talked about. What she found in the list of ingredients is surprising.
No cream on the front line. The base of this ice is made up of rehydrated skimmed milk, whole milk, then sugar. For Tiara, the latter is a little too present at the top of the list, but she nuances: “These are the first three ingredients we look at, because they are the most represented in the product.” It then notes the presence of whey proteins, fibers such as inulin, and several sweeteners. “There are emulsifiers, thickening, aromas … but nothing catastrophic”she summarizes. What makes it tickle is not so much the composition as the sugar added: 35 grams per pot. She believes that staying below 25 grams would be preferable, but judges the “acceptable” level, especially if we do not consume the whole pot in one stroke.
In terms of figures, the ice has about 300 to 400 calories per pot, against 1000 for certain conventional references. It contains about 9 grams of lipids, including 5.4 grams of saturated fats. “It’s not huge for a whole pot”, underlines Tiara. Proteins go up to 13 grams per pot. “Usually ice creams do not contain protein at all”, she said. The fibers, too, stand out: 29 grams per pot, an unusually high rate, due to the addition of inulin. It is this mixture that allows the ice to keep a difficult promise: to keep a smooth texture and a sweet taste, while limiting calorie contributions.
Behind this ice cream, the founders of the GROM brand, worked hand in hand with a high -level sportsman to create an ice cream that holds the road on the nutrition. This sportsman is Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque pilot, a great lover of ice cream, dreamed of a product that he could eat without compromising his performance. With them, he launched LEC, a brand of ice which he summarizes by the slogan “Why Resist?”.
Tiara gives him the note of 6 out of 10. Not a miracle ice cream, but an option that has the merit of existing for those who want a compromise between pleasure and balance. “Would I choose it instead of another ice cream? Yes. Will I eat it several times a week? No. But a few spoons from time to time, why not”she concludes.
