Summer returns, and with him a well -known little scourge: the flies that revolve around the trash. As soon as it is hot, smells go up faster, waste ferment, and insects enjoy. Even with a lid, nothing helps: they always find a way to enter. Fortunately, there is a simple, natural, and above all surprising tip to limit their presence. No need for chemical spray or expensive gadgets. It only takes a few pinches … of two ingredients found in the kitchen.
The principle is simple: some natural smells repel the insects, not by killing them, but by blurring their smell. Some substances even irritate them even directly and this is precisely the principle of this trick. The idea is to disgust them to approach and for that, we will use two well-known spices in the kitchen, but formidable as anti-insect.
The first is soft on the nose for us, but very powerful for insects: it smells strong, masks bad odors, and even has antifungal properties. It creates a kind of fragrant barrier that flies and ants do not like at all. The second spike and contains a molecule that scares many animals, including insects. Its effect is immediate, it irritates their legs, their mouth, their antennas. The winning duo to slide in the trash: cinnamon and cayenne pepper.
How to use them? Nothing could be simpler. When changing the bagpipe, just sprinkle a little cinnamon and cayenne pepper at the bottom of the trash can, on a dry surface. It is also possible to put a little on the edges, especially around the cover. No need to put a lot, a thin layer is enough. And to further strengthen the effect, you can add a bay leaf or a cotton soaked in white vinegar. Does it really work? Yes, in many cases, because it greatly reduces the attraction of the trash, but it is not magical.
To strengthen the effect, a few simple gestures can make the difference: emptying the bag more often in summer, even if it is not full, cleaning the bottom of the trash regularly, especially if it is wet, packing very fragrant waste like fish or meat before throwing it away. And of course, you have to beware that the trash can always remain well closed.
