Yes, we grant you, changing a bulb may seem very simple, but like everything related to electricity, some precautions for use are to be taken, and the various types of bulb will require different ways to proceed. We tell you everything!
If it is a suspension or even a wall lamp, cut the current before removing the bulb (don’t worry, your household appliances can perfectly support these few minutes without electricity). If it’s a lamp, unplug it.
In the case of an incandescent bulb, wait for it to cool a little if it has just grilled, to avoid burning yourself. Use a cloth anyway to handle your bulb, to avoid any deposit that could weaken the glass afterwards.
If the bulb to be changed is in height, do not climb on an unstable booster like a chair or a wobbly stool, and do not position yourself on a piece of furniture for example. The best is a step or a small stepladder.
You are lucky, it’s the easiest to change! Simply unscrew the bulb by turning it to the left. Do not hesitate to force a little if it was screwed very strongly. Then screw the new bulb by turning it to the right and tightening a little more towards the end.
Even if they are more and more replaced by safer and more economical models, bayonet bulbs can still be found in older dwellings or lights. You will easily recognize them thanks to their two “teeth” present on the cheek. To replace them, it’s also quite simple, just take the helping hand. Hold the bulb firmly, drip it slightly and turn it to the left until its teeth are released. You will do the opposite to set up the new bulb, inserting the teeth into the notches of the socket and then turning a quarter of a turn to the right.
All in length, the halogen bulb also changes very easily. Its socket is made up of one spring on one end and one notch on the other. You just have to drive the bulb towards the spring and support until you can remove the bulb. And to insert your new halogen bulb, you will have to support again on the spring side and clip the other end into the notch.
Note that, according to European regulations, some halogen bulbs will no longer be marketed from 1er September 2018. This concerns the non-directed Halogen bulbs with sector tension: indeed, they no longer meet the requirements of the European Union in terms of eco-design, and come to join the halogen lamps with light flows directed with sector tension, already prohibited from marketing since 1er September 2016. On the other hand, the linear high -consumption linear halogen bulbs R7S and halogen capsule G9, insofar as they comply with the regulations, will remain available commercially.
If possible, do not throw your grilled bulbs in the ordinary trash can and prefer a specially suitable collection point which will take care of their recycling. You will find one easily near you, whether in an average or large area, or in an appliance store.
