In 2024, according to Istat data, in Italy 23.1% of the population risked poverty or social exclusion. About 13 million and 525 thousand people, that is, found themselves in difficulty that cannot face unexpected expenses, cannot afford an adequate meal or not being able to pay the rent or bills. Poverty and social inequalities represent an emergency that above all exposes minors to the risk of an increasingly precarious future, without the opportunity for growth and personal realization.
To continue to stay alongside children and young people at risk of poverty and social exclusion, until 7 July 2025 Salesians for the social – membership network that for over thirty years has been engaged in the protection and protection of minors and young people – promotes the awareness and fundraising campaign “We do not leave the most fragile children in the dark”: Everyone can donate by calling from a fixed network or by sending an SMS to Solidarity number 45598. The value of the donation will be 2 euros for each SMS sent by Windtre cell phones, TIM, Vodafone, Iliad, PosteMobile, Fastweb, Coop Voce, Tiscali; It will be 5 or 10 euros for calls from a fixed network Tim, Vodafone, Windtre, Fastweb, Tiscali, Geny Communications and, always for the fixed network, 5 euros from convergences, PosteMobile.
In particular, through the funds collected, the activities of Salesian reality will be enhanced and improved in difficult neighborhoods of some cities with over 500 thousand inhabitants – Palermo, Naples, Rome, Genoa – as well as support for unaccompanied foreign minors. “Educational poverty is no longer an emergency but a structural data of our society” he explains Don Francesco Preitenational president of Salesians for the Social. «With our proximity work, we intervene precisely in difficult contexts, with the aim of guaranteeing children, teenagers and young people a full and dignified life. Inspired by the educational method of Don Bosco, the network of Salesian associations for the Social operates throughout the national territory through family homes, reception community, day centers and other services, lending the suburbs in a widespread manner, where they often lack opportunities for social and cultural development, especially in the South. Even the smallest help can be precious and this is why we have given rise to the campaign “We do not leave the most fragile children in the dark”, to support the initiatives active on the national territory, which aim to respond in a concrete and innovative way to the educational needs of minors and their families “.
