The government wants to encourage more young graduates to turn to this practice, already well rooted with our European neighbors. And to believe the feedback, she would have several assets.
Knowing what to do later is the big question that trotting in the heads of many high school students, especially when approaching the bac and Parcoursup. Choosing a way, a job, projecting yourself into the future when you are barely 17 or 18 years old is not always simple. Many feel lost, hesitate, change your mind along the way. And that’s normal: orientation is a real subject, often a source of pressure, even anxiety. Between parents ‘expectations, teachers’ advice and sometimes blurred desires, it is difficult to make a choice.
To lighten the pressure on the shoulders of high school students with regard to their orientation, the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Élisabeth Borne, wishes to soften access to higher education. A project that will come into force at the start of the 2025 school year. The objective is to set up a “True Orientation Education Program”she said during a press point on June 5. Among the measures announced, one is addressed directly to high school students. This is a device already present on Parcoursup, but still “Very little known”, said the minister. Only 9,000 high school students or 1.3% of neo-Bachelors have used it since its creation. It is about the year of post-baccalaureate caesura. To put it simply, it is a break that high school students can take just after obtaining the bac, before entering higher education.
During this period, we do not take a lesson, but we can go abroad, do an internship, work, engage in an association or simply take time to think about your future. So, “To promote this system, the year of caesura will make it possible to obtain university credits”, explained Elisabeth borne to our colleagues from Figaro. Currently, a working group piloted by the General Inspectorate of Education, Sport and Research (Igésr) is working on the file for “Make it accessible to everyone and better value it”.
An option that has several advantages for the high school students concerned: get to know each other better, test concrete things and come back with a more solid project. It is also a good way to gain autonomy, to gain self -confidence and to get out of the school framework to see the world differently. For the time being, it is “Possible for young people who wish to make a year of post-bac caesura to keep their assignment Parcoursup”, indicates the ministry in its future plan.
