After 40, there are some makeup mistakes to avoid, especially around the eyes. Here are tips from a professional makeup artist for a captivating look, without any faux pas.
Who said that after 40, you can no longer afford fancy makeup? Certainly not us. Recently, we explained to you how to keep an ultra fresh complexion, but also the golden rule of a makeup artist for applying concealer once you have passed this important stage of life.
Here are now the keys to a captivating look after 40, and they are 100% approved by Tom Sapin, makeup artist at MAC Cosmetics. “I would say that the first mistake to avoid is to automatically continue to do the same makeup as during your twenties and thirties. Because this is the age where you will have to make changes,” explains the professional. Be careful, this does not mean that you should no longer wear eye makeup, or that you can no longer afford anything, quite the contrary. On the other hand, it is important to make some adaptations to your usual routine. For example, very clean, strict and graphic eye makeup are no longer the best choices for our peepers. “If you have worn a super graphic liner for a long time, it is perhaps better to switch to something smokier and more blurry,” continues the makeup artist. His advice? Trace the liner with a pencil and blend it with a brush to obtain a less strict result. If you still want to keep your liner, he recommends switching to a color lighter than black, such as dark brown. Doe eye effect guaranteed.
When it comes to eye shadow, again, there are a few golden rules. Indeed, if colored makeup should not be banned (far from it), certain shades should be reserved for days when you look good. “The typical example is plum: it flatters many eye colors. It’s both sober, but also brings a little color. The other side of the coin is that it can give a reddish side and a tired look”, specifies Tom Sapin. So, he advises only using this color on days when you look in good shape (after a good night’s sleep for example). “The rest of the time, we can use brown,” he adds. The important thing? Above all, don’t forget to have fun when putting on makeup! “We can still do lots of things on the eyes after 40!” And it’s a professional who says it!
