Just a few hours after Alain Delon’s funeral, the late actor was used for a very tasteless scam…
It didn’t take long for the death of the sacred monster of cinema to be exploited. Alain Delon died on August 19 at his home in Douchy. The day after his death, a scam exploiting the actor’s image emerged on social networks. An advertisement, created using artificial intelligence, shows the actor delivering a strange message…
Alain Delon: the strange video published after his death
“If you are watching this video, it is because I am already dead (…) I have decided to distribute part of my money to all French people, each one will be able to win 4,000 euros. I hope that my daughter has already launched this application (…) All you have to do is recharge your account and find Pinco. I will leave the link to the application under the video.” It is The French Pointa Facebook page, which posted this strange video.
To hope to benefit from a part of Alain Delon’s money, the steps are simple: register on the online casino site and obviously, pay money into the said site. But be careful, this is of course a huge scam and the Cheetah has never said such words!
Alain Delon, at the heart of a scam: a terrible deception
But then how did the scammers managed to make Alain Delon speak? Quite simply by using a multimedia synthesis technique based on artificial intelligence, which is very fashionable at the moment. This technique is better known as “deepfake”. Synthesizing the voice and appearance of any person, including on video, is child’s play. But the identity theft doesn’t stop there. The page hosting the application uses the name of Anouchka Delon, the actor’s daughter.
“The death of Alain Delon is the perfect opportunity for these groups of scammers, they know his life, they know what to say to make the video plausible, especially by using his daughter… It’s credible enough to believe it, the person who comes across this advert is put at ease said Victor Baallais, specialist in AI (Artificial Intelligence) in the columns of Parisian.
