Rather than knowing how to end a strike, it is better not to start one. The 33,000 employees of Boeing’s historic home in the American Northwest will vote on September 12 on the wage agreement negotiated with the aircraft manufacturer by their unions. But by putting on the table, among other things, a 25% pay increase over four years, its new boss, Kelly Ortberg, seems determined not to open yet another Pandora’s box and to do everything to avoid a showdown.
Its commitment to producing the next plane in Washington and Oregon, and the move of its office to Seattle, even if the group’s headquarters remains on the East Coast, in Arlington, demonstrate a desire to reconnect Boeing with its historical culture.
